During WBGO's "We The People" September 2026 Fund Drive, the public radio station is partnering with Maimonides Medical Center's Division of Blood Transfusion Medicine and Donor Services to help save lives.
We probably all know someone who has received a blood transfusion in the past that has either improved or saved their life. In fact, according to the American Red Cross and the American Hospital Association, nearly 16 million blood components are transfused each year in the U.S., saving the lives of over 4.5 million people.
Maimonides Medical Center is one of Brooklyn’s oldest and most revered hospitals, serving the community for more than 100 years and achieving excellence in care across a multitude of specialties. It also has the added benefit of having a Blood Donor Center that provides blood to the patients that its serves—one of only a select few institutions in New York that have a hospital Blood Donor Center and Transfusion Services under one roof.
