The second annual UNCF 5K Walk/Run, in partnership with the Kat Team Foundation is set for Saturday, September 21 at Brookdale Park on Watchung Avenue in Bloomfield, New Jersey.
The morning event, which has registration at 8am and begins at 9am, looks to bring together individuals, family members, friends and co-workers to participate and help raise much needed funds to help address college-bound students’ financial obstacles so that they are able to get to and through college.
Karl Towns, President of the Kat Team Foundation and father of Karl-Anthony Towns of the NBA's Minnesota Timberwolves, was joined in the WBGO studios by Ngozi Emenyeonu, UNCF's Area Development Director for New Jersey and Karl's wife Jacqueline.

Physical and Mental Health and Wellness is the theme of the 5K Walk/Run for Education, with activities for children, music, healthy refreshments, friendly competition and information for healthy living at all stages.
Karl Towns, a long time educator and coach, says this year's Run/Walk is more global. "We've got people coming all areas to support the event, Phoenix, Kentucky, New York and Chicago. It's always about the kids. More schools and college fraternities are going to be at the event."
Karl-Anthony Towns is expected to be this year's event. Karl Towns, Sr. says his son was impressed with last year's 5K Run Walk. "He loved it, he was inspired by the fact that we are really out there trying to help the kids of America, to further their education. He supports his parents in any endeavor we do."
