Radam Schwartz Lights Up a Hammond B-3 Organ in Our Studio, on Afternoon Jazz

Radam Schwartz is passionate about “organ rooms” — jazz clubs with a Hammond B-3 or some other type of organ. Schwartz, an organ scholar and a jazz historian, says that on many levels, such clubs are largely forgotten.

This Saturday he turns Clement’s Place, at 15 Washington Street in Newark, into an organ room with his combo for the release party of his new album, Two Sides Of The Organ Combo. The CD has an LP feel, with a “Smooth Side” and a “Groove Side,” each featuring a different combo with Schwartz and drummer Andrew Atkinson.

The “Smooth Side” combo, with Bryan Carrott on vibes and Mike Lee on tenor saxophone, paid a visit to Afternoon Jazz. I hope you enjoy the music and conversation as much as we did.
