International Contemporary Ensemble’s violinist Jennifer Curtis and interdisciplinary artist Pauchi Sasaki have a long history of collaborating together. Join us for an evening focused on their work including interviews, descriptions of process, and past performances. Rebekah Heller and Clifton Joey Guidry III will take us through their process in collaboration with the world premiere of Guidry’s How hot is the sand at 6pm?
  • Sarah Cabral was born in southern Brazil. She draws on modern jazz, avant-garde, and classical influences to breathe new life into seemingly bygone eras of traditional and popular Brazilian music. A recent review by Helvécio Cardoso in Diário da Manha read that her music “unites the sophistication of the most exquisite taste and simplicity.”

  • Contemporary jazz band ‘Spin Cycle’ has been bringing their original music across the US and Canada. Co-lead by Scott Neumann (Drums) and Tom Christensen (Tenor and Soprano Sax), the band highlights their flexibility, reach and capacity. On any given song, you might encounter the modal influence of John Coltrane, the second-line funk of New Orleans, or the edgy experimentation of free jazz. The band also features guitarist Pete McCann and bassist Phil Palombi, both bandleaders and well-respected artists in their own right. The band’s fourth CD will be released soon on their label, Sound Footing Records.

  • The Watchung Arts Center is delighted and honored to present internationally-celebrated pianist, arts advocate and educator Min Kwon and her vision of America/Beautiful in a solo performance on Saturday, October 23 at 8PM. America/Beautiful is the creation of Korean-born American musician Min Kwon, who commissioned a diverse group of more than 70 of today’s leading American composers to each compose a variation on “America the Beautiful.” In the end, she’s produced a meaningful, poignant, and powerful record that speaks of the resilience and invention of all Americans during this time.
