  • Our 2nd celebration of community arts will take place in Newark’s Forest Hill historic district on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 12-6pm. Organized by the Forest Hill Community Association, our FREE family-friendly event will have amateur and professional artists (both performing and visual) volunteering to showcase their talents. Residents from Forest Hill will make their porches available to serve as community stages to accommodate the artists.   • Directed by Professor Tatum Greenblatt, The Rutgers Jazz Lab Band presents “A Night at Minton’s: Music from the Bebop Era,” featuring guest artist, Sharel Cassity. The ensemble will explore the music of Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Tadd Dameron, and other artists who brought Jazz into the artistic realm of the Post-Modern.

  • Jazz pianist Joel Zelnik is joined by bassist Brian Glassman and drummer David Cox in a program based on the dialogues between Zelnik and Evans at the Village Gate during the mid-sixties. Splitting sets with the Bill Evans Trio at the Village Gate, Joel was heavily influenced by one of the most important pianists and composers in the history of jazz.

  • Mike Davis returns for his annual birthday tribute to the legendary Bix Beiderbecke! Although Bix would be turning 118 this year, his music sounds fresh as ever through the expert interpretations by cornetist Mike Davis and his band of devotees to the music of Beiderbecke.
  • NYC-based Zachary Hann Trio returns to High Bridge for two sets at Scout’s Coffee Bar + Mercantile, 11 Main St. Hann, an alto saxophonist, will be joined onstage by bassist Solomon Gottfried and drummer Jacob Patrone. The jazz performance will be accompanied by a culinary experience presented by chef Andrew Mercado, who will be serving Taco Asado from his upcoming wood-fired taco spot in Flemington, NJ.
