Louis Armstrong Legacy Monthly Jazz Jam September 2021
Monthly Jazz Jams return live at Flushing Town Hall the second Wednesday of every month! Open to professional jazz musicians, graduate students studying jazz, music educators and serious hobbyists, Louis Armstrong Legacy Monthly Jazz Jams invites musicians to perform at Flushing Town Hall. All are welcome, regardless of instrument (vocalists, too!). Our Steinway baby grand and drum kit are available at each Jam. House Band and Jam Sessions are led by Carol Sudhalter, with Joe Vincent Tranchina, Scott Neumann, and Eric Lemon. Don't play, but love jazz? Getting COVID-19 vaccinated is the most important thing all of us can do to save lives and end this pandemic. That’s why we’ll be Barbequing for a Cause on August 14, 2021, from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
Great Jazz on the Great Hill
Jazzmobile and the Central Park Conservancy are thrilled to welcome back live music at Great Jazz on the Great Hill. Enjoy a stellar lineup of world-renowned jazz performers while lounging on the lawn or swing dancing in the park. The afternoon of jazz features Camille Thurman and the Darrell Green Quartet, Allan Harris Septet and the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band and the Music of Jimmy Heath with Alyson Williams as Emcee. The event is weather permitting.
Sharp Radway
Pianist Sharp Radway returns to the Englewood Public Library on Thursday, August 19, at 7:30 p.m. on the library’s front plaza. This will be the 9th concert in the library's 9th annual Summer Jazz Concert Series - "Jazz Under the Stars”. This acclaimed series takes place every Thursday evening at 7:30 from June 24 through August 26. The concert series is free and open to the public. Registration is required for these concerts (no exceptions) and is available on Eventbrite or go to tinyurl.com/JUTSradway. The rain date will be Sunday, August 22 at 7:30 p.m. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, there is a maximum of 100 guests, Englewood library cardholders only, unless maximum not reached; please bring your own chair or blanket, and masks/social distancing is required. This event is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Englewood Library and The Bristal Assisted Living of Englewood. Pianist/Composer/Arranger/Author Sharp Radway has appeared with many of the great names in Jazz, both past and present. Some of his main influences as a pianist are Bud Powell, Red Garland, Thelonious Monk, McCoy Tyner, Ahmad Jamal, and Herbie Hancock. Radway has also appeared in film and theater. Sharp is also author of the book “Musicianship 101 (What They Don’t Tell You In School)”, published by Outskirts Press. His debut recording is “Hymns and Things (Introspection and Reflection)”. He has also worked with The Spirit of Life Ensemble, The New York Metropolitan Big Band, and currently serves as music director and pianist for The Celebration of Lionel Hampton Big Band. SFJAZZ Collective at SOPAC
The SFJAZZ Collective is an all-star award-winning Jazz supergroup comprising eight of the finest performers/composers at work in Jazz today. Launched in 2004 by SFJAZZ in San Francisco, the SFJAZZ Collective has become one of the most exciting and acclaimed groups on the Jazz scene. The current ensemble features Lizz Wright on vocals, Chris Potter on saxophones, David Sánchez on saxophones, Etienne Charles on trumpet, Warren Wolf on vibraphone, Edward Simon on keyboards, Aneesa Strings on bass, Kendrick A.D. Scott on drums.
