  • We are thrilled to announce Joanne Brackeen returns to live performances for the first time since 2020. We are initiating "Brackeen in the boroughs," with a performance as part of "The Masters Series" at Soapbox Gallery in... Brooklyn!  The live arts world was hit particularly hard by the pandemic and smaller venues have felt the pain more than others. We've chosen to support and celebrate intimate, but open and airy venues such as Soapbox Gallery; where music and well-being are a priority.  We ask all those who can, please consider purchasing a priority seating ticket for $50 (first few rows). Grab a handful or two of your best friends and have your own private party! Joanne would like to share her musical gift with as many people as possible. General admission in person tickets are $25 and livestream tickets are $20.  Wherever you are in the world, you can be with us (via livestream or up to 3 days after) and celebrate Women’s History Month in the process. As most of you know, Brackeen made history as the FIRST and ONLY woman to have extended tenure with that ultimate proving ground, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers. Like Chick Corea & McCoy Tyner, Joanne held the prestigious piano chair (1969-1972)! Less than 25 tickets in-person tickets remain for this one-night only LIVE performance; hosted by WBGO's Leslie Harrison.  Masks must be worn at all times. The Joanne Brackeen Trio will consist of Joanne Brackeen on piano (of course!), Lonnie Plaxico on bass and Adam Cruz on drums. As an appetizer, witness some of the magic here: https://youtu.be/n3mTrBHRQPA Or read this month's NYC Jazz Record featured cover story here: http://www.nycjazzrecord.com/ BONUS post performance interview with WBGO's Leslie Harrison. Join us! Soapbox Gallery is dedicated to presenting music, performance and works of art that engage the issues of our time. The room itself is a beautiful, meditative environment that was designed with state-of-the art acoustics to showcase exceptional musicianship from around the world. The gallery was founded on the premise that art and culture are powerful reminders of our shared humanity, which can help to shape identity and promote social evolution. Soapbox was inspired by the idea that a simple, humble box–that one stands on and delivers a speech from–can start a movement and perhaps even help to change the world. It’s our mission to create space for civil conversation between those with differing views. The intent of our programming is to create a dialogue where everyone has a seat at the table. We look forward to seeing you and feeling your energy!
