Bistro, BroadwayWorld, MAC, and Margaret Whiting Award winner Celia Berk will return to the Laurie Beechman Theatre in April for three performances following a successful, sold-out debut of On My Way To You: Improbable Stories That Inspired An Unlikely Path. In her new show, Celia Berk explores the courage and daring of iconic performers including Al Jolson, Maria Callas and Barbara Cook, and the deep impression they left on her. The songs are as unexpected as the stories, from Tin Pan Alley to Pop and more. Tedd Firth and Mark Nadler’s arrangements provide new ways of looking at classics.

On Saturday, December 17, Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT),
located at 23 Water St. Ossining NY, will close out its 2022 Music in the Box season
with a special holiday concert called Home for the Holidays, showcasing the sounds of
the KJ Denhert Jazz Project. The performance will combine holiday themes and material
from Denhert’s latest shows, including new additions from The Beatles, Paul Simon, Bob
Dylan and KJ originals. Urban folk jazz legend Denhert, named one of Jazz.com’s top
female vocalists and four-time Independent Music Award nominee, will be accompanied
by Adam Armstrong on acoustic bass, Nicki Denner on keyboard/piano, Mark McIntyre
on guitar and Eric Halvorson on drums.

5BMF’s 2021-2022 Season continues this year with the World Premiere of the Five Borough Songbook, Volume III! This will mark the 3rd time we are welcoming back the Five Boroughs Music Festival to Flushing Town Hall.

A special co-production with ON SITE OPERA, this new cycle of fifteen songs, duets, and ensembles by fifteen composers was commissioned in honor of 5BMF’s 15th Anniversary and On Site Opera’s 10th Anniversary seasons, and marks the third installment of 5BMF’s critically-acclaimed quinquennial FIVE BOROUGH SONGBOOK project.

Featuring new works by Arianne Abela, Raquel Acevedo Klein, Kinan Azmeh, Colin Britt, Majel Connery, Laura Jobin-Acosta, Will Healy, Brian Lawlor, Jessica Meyer, Angélica Negrón, Nkeiru Okoye, Juri Seo, Aaron Siegel, Darian Thomas, and Jonathan Woody, the Songbook derives its inspiration from locations scattered throughout New York City — three songs for each borough — to create a mosaic of the city’s past, present and future. The Songbook’s texts are drawn from a variety of sources: written by the composers themselves, from existing poetry (including Joseph Tusiani, Amy Lowell, and Walt Whitman), and newly-commissioned words in Arabic by Firas Sulaiman, in Spanish and English by Noel Quiñones, and by Valerie Seeley.
