WMI Presents Techung and Tibetan Ensemble - Classical Music from Lhasa
Techung is a Tibetan singer/songwriter living in the USA. He is best known for his skilled and moving performances of traditional Tibetan music, dance, and opera. Techung’s career, along with his ongoing projects demonstrates his commitment to Tibetan music and culture. This is the result of his classical training and also of his experience as a child growing up as a Tibetan exile in India in the 1960s and 1970s. He is a musician in the traditional Tibetan folk and classical style, but he also transcends this description, as the foregoing story and his discography and collaborations with musicians from other musical traditions and heritages aptly show. He understands music as a living art and tradition. This upcoming tour is the final outcome of the project where Techung and his ensemble of Tibetan traditional artists will perform for the first time in the US, a concert based on a repertoire of Nangma and Toeshey music.

Another Sunday Serenade
On Sunday Sept.11th, the place to be will be the Cutting Room when VTY Jazz Arts presents another Sunday Serenade tribute to the legendary tenor saxophonist Clifford Jordan. The doors open at 3:30 P.M. and the music starts at 4:00 P.M. Two sets of great music for one music charge in a room that lends itself to great listening. Hope to see you live and in-person on Sunday Sept.11th for this not to be missed tribute for Clifford Jordan.
Chris Smither & Tim O’Brien with Jan Fabricius
A master of acoustic Folk/Blues, Chris Smither creates a singular guitar sound – a beat-driven finger-picking, layered over his ever-present rhythmic, tapping feet (always mic’d in performance). A lifelong devotee of Bluegrass, Tim O'Brien is skilled on guitar, mandolin, fiddle and banjo. He often performs with his wife, vocalist Jan Fabricius.
Another Sunday Serenade
VTY Jazz Arts is proud to present Another Sunday Serenade live at the Cutting Room on Sunday April 3rd. This program will be a tribute to the great Clifford Brown and will feature some very special upcoming artists in pianist James Austin, Andrew Wagner trumpet and Sarah Hanahan on alto saxophone. The quintet will be rounded out by veteran bassists Nat Reeves and drummer Chris Beck. The room is spacious and the sound is superb. Nothing replaces being there live :-). Reservations: 917-882-9539
