Jason Lindner: A State Of Pure Jazz Bliss
The modus operandi of Lindner's "Big Pump" is aural overload: With its odd-metered measures, the song functions as a throwback to bebop and shape-shifting jazz, but with hip-hop sophistication and the sensibilities of a jazz-rock band.
Marie Knight On Mountain Stage
The blues and gospel singer made her biggest hits with Sister Rosetta Tharpe more than 60 years ago. Her storied career continues: She recently released her first album in a quarter-century. Hear the New York-based minister perform live.
The Donkeys: 'Walk Through A Cloud'
The Donkeys' lazy, country-tinged Americana sound is a perfect match for the band's San Diego home. The group's second album, Living on the Other Side, is a simple and soothing summer set — music for driving with the top down, sunbathing in the sand and napping in a hammock.
Tommy Keene: A Power-Pop Master Returns
Keene's songbook contains some of the best rock to come out of the '80s post-punk era. Balancing his roles as a solo artist and a hired gun for acts like Robert Pollard and Paul Westerberg, Keene has earned acclaim for his hook-writing mastery and thunderous guitar work. There's a healthy dose of both on Keene's latest release, In the Late Bright.
Apex Manor On 'World Cafe: Next'
After the pop-rock outfit Broken West decided to end its run last year, band member Ross Flournoy found himself at a loss. In need of some inspiration, he turned to NPR's Monitor Mix online songwriting contest and churned out a strong pop-rock single, which inspired Flournoy to start Apex Manor.
What we know about the inkstand in front of Nancy Pelosi during the State of the Union
The inkstand is the oldest surviving artifact of the House of Representatives, dating back to the early 1800s.
Percy Heath Steps Out
This past week, bassist and cellist Percy Heath was honored with a "Beacons in Jazz" award from the New School University in New York. NPR's Liane Hansen speaks with the longtime member of the Modern Jazz Quartet who still performs with the Heath Brothers, and has only now at the age of 80 released his first solo CD: A Love Song is on Daddy Jazz Records.

Strawberry moon forever — or at least this weekend
June's full moon, also known as "strawberry moon," is lighting up the sky all weekend. The best time to see it is Saturday night.
Ortega Is Likely Winner of Nicaraguan Vote
Daniel Ortega appears to be headed for victory in Nicaragua's presidential elections, as partial election results show the former revolutionary holding a substantial lead over his rivals. With returns in from nearly 50 percent of polling stations, the Sandinista Party candidate has just over 40 percent of the vote.
