Roxbury Arts Alliance presents Godspell, a rock opera with messages of unity, kindness, tolerance, and love according to the Gospel with storytelling, humor and pathos.

An eclectic blend of storytelling techniques, songs and comic timing tells the story of Jesus' life, dissolving into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion.

Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden), and it took the world by storm. It broke new ground in its stage treatment of the historical Jesus Christ when it first appeared on Broadway in 1971.

MasterVoices presents Bizet’s Carmen on October 25 at the Rose Theater at Jazz at Lincoln Center, conducted by Ted Sperling, directed by Sammi Cannold, and choreographed by Gustavo Zajac. Performance will feature singers Ginger Costa-Jackson, Terrence Chin-Loy, Mikaela Bennett, and John Brancy, with Orchestra of St. Luke’s.

The 92nd Street Y, New York (92NY), one of New York's leading cultural venues, presents Eric Owens, bass-baritone, and singers from the Curtis Opera Theatre, on October 25, 2022 at 7:30pm ET at the Kaufmann Concert Hall. The concert will also be available for viewing online for 72 hours from time of broadcast. When Metropolitan Opera regular Eric Owens isn't performing on the stages of international opera houses, he's teaching and advising the next generation of vocal artists at Philadelphia's Curtis Institute of Music – the school that launched him 25 years ago. Owens joins for Brahms' Neue Liebeslieder Waltzer (New Love Songs) as well songs of Brahms, Schubert, Lerner & Loewe, and other operatic repertoire, including performances with Sarah Fleiss, Lucy Baker, and Joseph Tancredi, from Curtis Opera Theatre — proven springboard for careers on the stage of La Scala, Covent Garden, The Met and more. Acclaimed jazz pianist David Kikoski brings his formidable trio to Zinc for a splendid evening of jazz piano on Tuesday, November 1. He’s supported by Matt Penman on bass and Jeff “Tain” Watts on drums.

David Kikoski is one of New York’s busiest pianists. It’s no wonder. Given his swinging, always spontaneous playing, one immediately understands why his bio includes tenures with Roy Haynes, Bob Berg, Pat Metheny, and the Mingus Big Band.

Join us for Lioness: Women in Jazz Concert Series, a 3-part partnership series happening at Flushing Town Hall during the Fall 2022 season. Each of these 3 concerts will be 60 minutes long and include a Q&A after each performance. This concert features Lauren Sevian’s LSQ.

The purpose of each concert is not only to share the music of women composers with the community, but also to share the artistic process and methods practiced by these composers. It's also a forum through which the audience can have a meaningful dialogue with the musicians and hopefully feel more of a connection with the music and the artistic process moving forward.

The Afro-Cuban Experience showcases Dizzy Gillespie’s love of world music, which he successfully fused with jazz during his entire career. His vast repertoire includes compositions that were inspired by his love of the African, Argentinian,Brazilian, Caribbean, Cuban, and Spanish music cultures. Dizzy’s fusion of Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz was ground breaking. The well-loved melodies of “Manteca” and “Tin Tin Deo" are an important part of the jazz vernacular. Dizzy also wrote vibraphonist Cal Tjader’s afro-cuban hit “Soul Sauce”. Dizzy was also the first American musician to recognize the great Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim’s genius with his 1957 classic recording of Jobim’s “No More Blues” and his famous recording of “Desafinado” from Dizzy on the Rivera. His well known discovery and collaboration with the great Argentinian pianist Lalo Schifrin (who Dizzy discovered in Buenos Aries during a tour of Argentina in 1956) produced many great compositions and arrangements. The ensemble features Dizzy’s longtime bassist and musical director John Lee, Freddie Hendrix on trumpet & flugelhorn, Sharel Cassity on alto saxophone & flute, Steve Carrington on tenor saxophone, Cyrus Chestnut on piano, Tommy Campbell on drums, and Roger Squitero on congas, bongos, and percussion.
