  • Take in the sounds of chamber works by Mendelssohn and Coleridge-Taylor, curated by NJSO Concertmaster Eric Wyrick and performed by New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players. This summer, The Newark Museum of Art partners with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra to bring you a vibrant outdoor series of concerts, films, and cultural celebrations. All programs will take place in the Museum’s Alice Ransom Dreyfuss Memorial Garden with a limited capacity and safety guidelines to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience.

  • The Second Annual Creative Writing Workshop is comprised of two sections. July 12-15, is focused on poetry. August 2-5, is focused on short stories. ACCA is seeking youth ages 13-21 who are inspired to write and can do it all day every day. These Creative writing Workshops are designed to give the young writer time, a mentor, and space to write. Lunch is provided. The cost is free to participants. However, they must agree to attend consistently and participate in presenting their works-in-progress on Saturday, August 14, 2021, including set-up and break-down. Presentation at 7pm.

  • Chris Distefano is taking over the comedy world, one laugh at a time. Along with comedy buddy Yannis Pappas, he created the gut-busting Bay Ridge Boys web series and History Hyenas podcast. With his hilarious POV and growing fan base, Chris quickly caught Comedy Central’s eye—and now he’s the network’s rising star. He hosts the weekly series Stupid Questions with Chris Distefano, premiered a new standup special (Size 38 Waist), and has another special AND an animated series in the works. This performance at NJPAC is just the next step in his plan for total comedy domination.
  • “ONE OF THE MOST RIVETING YOUNG IMPROVISORS IN NEW YORK” - --NY TIMES Brent Birckhead sax, flute Mark Meadows, piano Kris Funn, bass Carroll Dashiell III, drums Saxophonist Brent Birckhead is an award-winning artist, whose aesthetic is an intersectional amalgam of traditional and popular styles. Unbound by genre, Birckhead’s approach to woodwind artistry is driven by his compulsion for creative risk and deep respect for legacy. His place in the continuum of a storied lineage begins with his surname, Birckhead, and extends to his extensive musical education and work ethic as a visionary approach to life as a rising leader. Educated at Howard University (BME, MM), Birckhead was named best blues/pop/rock soloist and outstanding instrumental jazz soloist by Downbeat Magazine as part of the annual Student Music Awards. In 2011 Brent was named "Best Alto Saxophonist" by the Washington City Paper. The Baltimore native's talent earned him the honor of performing and touring with legendary artists including Lauryn Hill, Nas, Wale, Eric Benet, Larry Graham, George Duke and many more. Birckhead is the professor of saxophone at Morgan State University. On February 22nd Birckhead released his self-titled debut album on Revive Music. He currently resides in New York City.   • Echo Taunt is the hybrid electronic project of musicians Michael Alfieri and Walsh Kunkel. The duo is marking their beginnings with the release of Sudsville on the Shiny Boy Press Record Label and with live improvisatory performances. Guitarist Walsh Kunkel and drummer Michael Alfieri play in a free jazz tradition with intensely superb musicianship; crafting an immersive dimension of sound art environments. Check them out on Spotify, YouTube, Bandcamp and other streaming services. Walsh Kunkel is a guitarist, composer and electronic musician hailing from Baltimore, Maryland. Walsh has spent his youth organizing and experimenting with sound and song form, writing and producing tracks of an array of styles. These abilities and interests have been augmented by the Jazz Performance program at Towson University where he studied with the likes of Anthony Pirog, Kris Davis, Drew Gress, William Parker and many more. With a focus on combining electronic and acoustic music styles, Walsh Kunkel is forging his own sound and searching for ways to express his views of the world through his work. Mike Alfieri is a drummer, percussionist and composer from New York now living in Baltimore, Maryland. Mike is a frequent collaborator and session drummer - writing, recording, and producing with Tomato Flower, Freaks No Geeks, Kinsmen & Strangers and other projects. He has worked with renowned jazz artists including John Riley, Dan Weiss, John Abercrombie, Pete Malinverni, Ralph Lalama, Richie Morales, and Tom Rainey. He’s played festivals, galleries, theaters, DIY spaces and independent venues all around the US and abroad including Brooklyn Bowl, The Ottobar, Rockwood Music Hall, Weinberg Center for the Arts, Cornelia St. Cafe, Merriman’s Playhouse, and The Count Basie Theater. Mike earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and a Master's degree in Jazz Studies from the Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase.
