JusticeAid invites you to enjoy "Bessie! Empress of the Blues" - a unique live benefit concert at City Winery, NYC, hosted by Emmy Award winner Mark Ruffin, featuring contemporary artists performing a tribute to the irrepressible jazz and blues vocalist Bessie Smith. Featuring musical artists: Paula Cole, Valerie Simpson, Terri Lyne Carrington, Nona Hendrix, Madeleine Peyrou, Allan Harris, Morley, Chris Bergson & Ellis Hooks, and Samara Joy. Tickets include hors d’oeuvres, 3-course dinner, wine, beer, and assorted beverages. All proceeds will support programs and services for LGBTQ youth.

The Vince Ector Group will be in concert at the Englewood Public Library on Thursday, August 4, at 7:30 p.m. on the library’s front plaza. This will be the 7th installment in the library’s 10th annual jazz concert series “Jazz Under the Stars.” The concert series is free and open to the public. No registration is needed, but library parking is very limited. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church one block north at 113 Engle St.
Vincent Ector hails from the musical city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he attended the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, Vincent produced his second CD as a leader entitled Renewal of the Spirit for Mambo Maniacs Records. This recording features Bobby Watson on Saxophones and four of Vincent's original compositions. Ector is featured performing on drum set, djembe and sangba African drums.

Richard Baratta—“The 3 B’s + 2” will be in concert at the Englewood Public Library, on Thursday, July 7, at 7:30 p.m. on the library’s front plaza. This will be the 3rd concert in the Library's 10th annual Summer Jazz Concert Series - "Jazz Under the Stars". This acclaimed series takes place every Thursday evening at 7:30 from June 23 through August 25. The concert series is free and open to the public. No registration is needed, but library parking is very limited. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church one block north at 113 Engle St.
The performers are drummer Richard Baratta, guitarist Paul Bollenback, organist Pat Bianchi, saxophonist Vincent Herring and percussionist Paul Rossman.

Detroit native Robert Hurst III has enjoyed a stellar career spanning 30 years and become one of the most in-demand bassists in music, performing alongside the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Dave Brubeck, Yo Yo Ma, Diana Krall, and countless others. “Hurst’s Black Current Jam features the bassist’ compelling compositions that distill an encyclopedia’s worth of African American music, including swinging post-bop, African and Caribbean influences, contemporary beats from hip hop, and more” (Mark Stryker). Brooklyn-based and vibraphonist Joel Ross and recently awarded Rising Star Harpist in Downbeat Magazine’s 2020 Critics Poll Brandee Younger make their Paradise Jazz Series debut with a unique duo set.

Acclaimed Tenor Saxophonist George Garzone brings his formidable quartet to the Zinc on Saturday, September 24. He's supported by guitarist Peter Bernstein, bassist Peter Slavov, and drummer Ari Hoenig.

Saxophonist George Garzone is a member of The Fringe, a jazz trio founded in 1972 that includes bassist John Lockwood and drummer Bob Gullotti, that performs regularly in the Boston area and has toured Portugal. The group has released three albums. A veteran jazzman, Garzone has appeared on over 20 recordings. He began on the tenor when he was six, played in a family band, and attended music school in Boston. In addition, Garzone has guested in many situations, touring Europe with Jamaaladeen Tacuma and performing with Danilo Perez, Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Rachel Z, and John Patitucci, among others.

Garzone is well-known as a sought-after jazz educator, teaching at the Berklee College of Music, New England Conservatory, Longy School of Music, New York University and the New School University Jazz and Contemporary Program. He has pioneered the triadic chromatic approach and students of his have included Joshua Redman, Branford Marsalis, Teodross Avery, Luciana Souza, Mark Turner, Donny McCaslin, Doug Yates, and Danilo Pérez, to name a few.
