  • Techung is a Tibetan singer/songwriter living in the USA. He is best known for his skilled and moving performances of traditional Tibetan music, dance, and opera. Techung’s career, along with his ongoing projects demonstrates his commitment to Tibetan music and culture. This is the result of his classical training and also of his experience as a child growing up as a Tibetan exile in India in the 1960s and 1970s. He is a musician in the traditional Tibetan folk and classical style, but he also transcends this description, as the foregoing story and his discography and collaborations with musicians from other musical traditions and heritages aptly show. He understands music as a living art and tradition. This upcoming tour is the final outcome of the project where Techung and his ensemble of Tibetan traditional artists will perform for the first time in the US, a concert based on a repertoire of Nangma and Toeshey music.
  • We are very excited to welcome the incredible Steve Coleman to the Atlantic BKLN stage for TWO nights!

The influence of M-Base founder, composer, and alto saxophonist Steve Coleman cannot be overstated. His technical and compositional virtuosity engages with musical traditions and styles from around the world to expand possibilities for spontaneous composition. Whether performing solo or with Steve Coleman and Five Elements, he delivers performances of original works with rigorous focus and relies on execution and imagination in improvised pieces. His original works weave disciplined rhythmic structures, refined tonal progressions, and overlapping and mixed meters into emotionally expressive, fluid inquiries and statements.
  • Singer-songwriter Jason Bembry’s brand of piano/jazz pop is filled with profound feelings of deep introspection — encompassing the entire spectrum from the good to the bad, and to everything in between. As a solo artist, his sound ranges from stripped-back piano ballads to full-blown orchestrations. As a classically trained pianist and having studied music theory and composition extensively, he makes a conscious effort to include his classical, jazz, and new age roots into every song he writes.
  • Marc Ribot’s four months with jazz organ legend Brother Jack MacDuff were his first ever with an internationally touring artist. Fellow Jazz-Bin, Greg Lewis, is not only one of the greatest virtuosos of the Hammond b3 organ alive, but perhaps the only one willing and able to haul a real Hammond b3 and Leslie speaker cabinet to live gigs in NYC!

    About The Vision Festival

Founded in 1996, the Vision Festival is New York City's longest continuously running jazz festival. Now in its 26th year, this festival of music, dance, poetry, and visual art is heralded as “one of New York’s most essential art events” (New York Times). Performances feature legendary and emerging stars representing the free jazz, experimental, and avant-garde communities and include Lifetime Achievement honorees like Amina Claudine Myers, Andrew Cyrille, Dave Burrell, Peter Brötzmann, and Milford Graves. This year, we honor Wadada Leo Smith and Oliver Lake.

  • In commemoration of Juneteenth, Tony, Grammy and Emmy Award winner and Hadestown star André De Shields performs an excerpt from his self-crafted solo work “Frederick Douglass: Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory.” The one-man show explores the life and achievements of the great emancipator Frederick Douglass.

“Though Douglass began his life as a slave, through heroic effort, he became one of America’s most important and historically influential icons,” said De Shields. “Frederick Douglass: Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory” tells a story about brutality and deliverance that is implausible yet historically accurate. De Shields portrays the Great Black Emancipator with a performance that is as filled with hope and achievement as it is darkness and anger.
