Melt All the Guns - (RRnyc 008) Ralph Alessi - Trumpet Angelica Sanchez - Piano Devin Gray - Drums & Composition Brooklyn based drummer & composer Devin Gray leads a new trio project of original compositions with master musicians Ralph Alessi on trumpet, and Angelica Sanchez on piano. The project showcases the musicians abilities to surf through advanced ensemble notation while creating new spaces for inspired collective improvisations. "The music on this recording was composed during the fall of 2019 after several gun violence incidents took place. The increase of gun violence over the years and particularly in the United States has upset me so much that I need to speak out. Simply put, we need to expand awareness and work for a future free from gun violence. June 4th was the 7th National Gun Violence Awareness Day, and there are many local events including the Wear Orange Campaign that I recommend investigating. This trio recording was luckily captured after we played some concerts in Canada and the States, and uniquely explores expressions of my feelings around those infuriating times albeit pre-pandemic. The Chelsea Music Festival presents the world premiere of composer Eric Nathan’s Just a Moment (2021) for two antiphonal oboes performed by oboists John Ferrillo and Amanda Hardy on Friday, June 25, 2021 at 7:30pm as part of the 2021 Virtual Festival. There will be a pre-concert Zoom conversation at 7:00pm with Eric Nathan, Amanda Hardy, and Chelsea Music Festival Artistic Directors Melinda Lee Masur and Ken-David Masur. The online concert also includes clips with violinist Augustin Hadelich and pianist Orion Weiss and visuals by artist Kyle Meyer. Commissioned by the Chelsea Music Festival and Dr. Michael Sporn and dedicated to Ferrillo and Hardy, Just a Moment is a meditation on distance and intimacy. One oboe is placed on stage and the other in the balcony. They call out to each other, note-by-note, phrase-by-phrase, creating an unfolding melody, catching each other's notes, embracing these tones and the space that divides them, with subtle unisons and half-step dissonances mingling in echoes. There is a magical, trance-like sense of contemplation to the work, but also a sense of dancing joy. The audience hears the oboe on stage, and the echoes of the distant oboe from above, embracing and surrounding all in a sonic choreography that meets in the space between. Nathan says, “What the experience of the struggles of the past year has taught me most is to appreciate fleeting moments of beauty and connection, and how these can sustain us.” In the recorded premiere, the videography enables the audience to feel the distance between the players as well as experience the vastness and beauty of Boston’s Jordan Hall, where we cannot yet gather and listen to music. The video also brings us intimately into each of the players' worlds, closer and more privately, than if we heard it live.

Steve Arnold, bass Julian Berkowitz, drums Elijah Jamal Balbed, sax Connor Holdridge, guitar Dominique Bianco, vocals Originally from Staten Island, New York, Jazz Vocalist Dominique Bianco moved to Virginia in 2017 and currently is a Senior Jazz Studies Major at George Mason University. Dominique has been Singing, Writing and Recording music for over 10 years and specializes in Jazz, R&B, and Pop Genres. While attending George Mason University Dominique can not only be seen as a performer in the "Mason Jazz Ensemble" and at various Mason Jazz Vocal Nights but Dominique has shared the stage with The Manhattan Transfer and ACCENT as well as the American Festival Pops Orchestra, under the direction of Tony Maiello as a featured soloist. She has performed at venues like “The Cutting Room” in New York City, “Blue House Productions” in Maryland, “St. George Theatre” in Staten Island and more. Dominique can be seen in different venues from the D.M.V, D.C./Metro area to New York City and is currently developing her social media presence with her YouTube channel and has been covering jazz and pop songs like “Social Call” by Gigi Gryce and “Best Part” by H.E.R & Daniel Caesar. Overall her channel has over 16,000 views and she hopes to continue to share music in every possible way! In support of their debut album Town Attend virtually via a well-known online platform (yes, that one). Registration is required to attend virtually. Virtual attendance link will be emailed to you following registration. The Soubrettes are a singing ensemble based at the Vermont Jazz Center and led by Anna Patton. They specialize in close-harmony arrangements of swing, jazz, blues, and songs by contemporary songwriters. They take the moniker “Soubrette” from the musical theater term for the non-leading lady who is usually more worldly, funnier, and more instrumental to plot intrigue than the lead. The Choir seeks out these kinds of Soubrette-like songs and performs them with syncopation, panache, and wonderfully crunchy harmonies. A year in which they couldn’t perform as usual seemed like a good time to revisit some favorite songs from their twelve years together and make a remotely-recorded album. They chose songs by songwriters including Irving Berlin, Carsie Blanton, Mose Allison, and Kris Delmhorst and arrangements based on performances by Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, McCoy Tyner, and Cecile Mclorin Salvant. They rehearsed online and recorded individually, mostly by showing up to Anna’s porch where mic and headphone cables were dangling out her second-story office window. Some of Vermont’s finest instrumentalists joined Anna in creating the accompaniment tracks, including Will Patton, Eugene Uman, and Dono Schabner. The recording project has been a true labor of love, and their concert will feature their never-before-heard rough mixes: a sneak peek at recorded tracks that won’t be available for some months yet! There will also be moments of live audio, music videos, and a few of the group’s favorite short jokes.  The Soubrettes are raising money to have their album mixed and mastered and even printed to CD, so donations are much appreciated. Every last Saturday of the month, prepare to dive into the fascinating world of jazz, in a journey led by Ed Jackson that will allow you to experience the pleasant sensations of life which is hosted by Jackson Room in Queens, New York.

Ed Jackson is an accomplished saxophonist & active jazz player on the NY & International scene. Ed Jackson’s dynamic sound encompasses both the tradition and future of jazz. His versatility enables him to move within the various styles of jazz while at the same time maintaining a unique sound and direction.
The Jackson Room which is located in the heart of historical Queens, happens to be in the neighborhood where Ed grew up. This particular area of Queens in the town of St Albans, was home to an uncanny number of musicians including Count Basie, Fats Waller, Illinois Jacquet, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, James Brown, Ella Fitzgerald, Lenny White to name a few. In fact, John Coltrane lived on Mexico street which is just a few blocks away from the venue.

The Jackson Room has provided Ed with a chance to fulfill a more personal mission of enhancing Queens’ cultural landscape by bringing jazz back to the community.
