  • At 7pm, New-York based violinist and composer Tomoko Omura is celebrating the release of her fourth album Branches, Vol. 2 on Outside In Music. Originally from Shizuoka, Japan, Omura presents compositions inspired by Japanese folk stories and imaginative arrangements of popular Japanese songs. She is joined by Jeff Miles on guitar, Glenn Zaleski on piano, Pablo Menares on bass and Jay Sawyer on drums. At 8:30pm, Brooklyn based vocalist and composer Tammy Scheffer presents a new set of compositions for her longtime sextet. Belgium born, Israeli grown Scheffer presents an inspired mix of jazz, rock and Middle Eastern music, and her music speaks of the idea of home and belonging, while oscillating between feelings of connection and alienation. Her sextet features Jasper Dutz on alto saxophone, Dan Pratt on tenor saxophone, Glenn Zaleski on piano, Danny Weller on bass and Ronen Itzik on drums.     We’ll be performing some jazz standards, classics and a few original compositions.

    Walk-in music charge is $25.  Please be at the club 30 minutes prior to the show.

  • Roxbury Arts Alliance presents Godspell, a rock opera with messages of unity, kindness, tolerance, and love according to the Gospel with storytelling, humor and pathos.

    An eclectic blend of storytelling techniques, songs and comic timing tells the story of Jesus' life, dissolving into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion.

    Godspell was the first major musical theatre offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden), and it took the world by storm. It broke new ground in its stage treatment of the historical Jesus Christ when it first appeared on Broadway in 1971.

  • Acclaimed jazz guitarist Al Gafa brings his formidable trio to Zinc on Monday, October 17. He's supported by pianist Ted Rosenthal and bassist Jay Leonhart.

    Guitarist Al Gafa rose to prominence in the mid to late 60s as a session player. From 1969 to 1971, he became vocalist Carmen McRae's musical director and then later joined Dizzy Gillespie's band throughout the 70s. Since then, he's led a series of small bop groups and has performed or recorded with a virtual who's who of jazz luminaries including Sonny Stitt, Astrud Gilberto, Kenny Barron, Al Foster, Johnny Hartman, Susannah McCorkle, Joe Albany, Sammy Davis Jr., Sylvia Syms, Morgana King, Shirley Horn, Kai Winding, Michel Legrand, Sam Donahue, and Duke Pearson among others.
