  • Debuting at Payomet this summer on Wednesday, July 21 are duo Rachael and Vilray- together, they feel like a rare old vinyl gem that a curious collector found hidden in the dusty bins of some second-hand Cape Cod record shop and decided to share with the world, an unearthed jazz-vocal treasure. Even if listeners are in on part of the secret and already know Rachael Price as lead vocalist of Lake Street Dive, they will surely want to research these marvelous yet utterly unfamiliar songs she and guitarist-singer-composer Vilray (pronounced VILL-ree, no last name needed) perform together. Vilray is very much a contemporary composer who can truly evoke, not merely imitate, Tin Pan Alley tunes from the thirties and forties, a period that he and Price have both long been passionate about. Their songs are truly transporting: One can easily believe they could have been plucked from the soundtrack of a Hollywood musical filmed in glorious black and white or from a now-forgotten Broadway show that briefly lit up the Great White Way. But the fact that they are utterly original makes them all the more impressive and even more delightful to hear. With Rachael and Vilray, the duo adds a new chapter to the American Songbook, an opportunity to hear tomorrow's standards today.

  • Todrick Hall is celebrating Pride with the release of his new album, Femuline, released on June 8th. The album’s lead single, “Boys In The Ocean,” is an irresistible funk jam that rides along an infectious bassline and guitar licks, primed for summer escapism. Femuline follows Hall’s 2020 EP Quarantine Queen and exudes a new confidence and power, with plenty of dancefloor-ready tracks. Hall’s magnetic charisma shines through and his cheeky lyricism is an embodiment of his larger-than-life persona.   Hall says, “It has taken me years and years, even after coming out, to be this comfortable embracing my masculine and feminine sides. I'm so excited to give people permission to live as their fullest and truest selves with this music that I handcrafted specifically for the gay community. But I also feel that my music will resonate with people of all age groups and from all backgrounds."
  • Part of The Newark Museum of Art's Community Day: Juneteenth. Experience the city of Newark from a totally different view as we explore Newark's rich history. New Jersey was the last state to abolish slavery. By the end of the Civil War, there were more than 15 people living as “slaves for life.” Here on the land of the Newark Museum of Art, Noelle Lorraine Williams will tell two interrelated stories connected to Black freedom. The first one is about Governor Marcus Ward, whose house and carriage house sit on the grounds where the Newark Museum is today. The second story talks about the African American Billings family who lived in Wards’s carriage house for several decades.
