Launched to stardom in 1975 when she created the iconic role of Dorothy in Broadway’s The Wiz, the ultra-soulful songstress inspires standing ovations wherever she performs. She is a legendary GRAMMY® Award-winning recording artist with five bestselling albums and ten billboard #1 singles. She’ll be joined by The Whispers, one of the longest-running R&B supergroups ever to grace the stage. They are arguably the most celebrated balladeers of their generation and are one of only a few “old school” groups that can boast of having 40+ years in the industry with all of their original members.

  • The Afternoon Jazz @ HSA series will kick off on Saturday, March 19th in celebration of Women’s History Month, with the Marlene Rice String Three-Tet, led by innovative musical artist, violinist, vocalist, arranger, songwriter Marlene Rice, accompanied by the indefinable cellist Nioka Workman, and Destiny Diggs-Pinto on bass. The Series is made possible by Grammy Award nominee and composer/pianist, Adegoke Steve Colson, a recipient of the South Arts, 2021 Jazz Road Creative Residencies Grant, which is funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation in partnership with the Harlem School of the Arts.
  • Westchester Collaborative Theater (WCT) continues its Jazz Masters music series with the Willie Martinez Latin Jazz Quartet. Martinez, an accomplished drummer, percussionist, arranger/composer and vocalist, will be joined by Nicki Denner on piano/vocals, Bernie Minoso on bass, and Anton Denner on reeds and flute.
  • TC the third, a “Philly” native has developed, initiated, inspired, networked, and led several Philadelphia/New York-based Jazz bands. TC appeared at various venues in Harlem including St. Nicks Pub.   • Live and direct from the Horn of Africa, Ethiopia’s QWANQWA make their North American debut this fall; embarking on their very first U.S. tour of 23 states over three months. QWANQWA is a five-piece improvisatory ensemble based in Addis Ababa, dedicated to furthering Ethiopia’s unique string traditions. Inspired by a shared passion for Ethiopian music, the group brings together some of the most accomplished traditional players in the country; creating a space to explore new, improvised sound and break the rules in an otherwise conservative musical culture.

Jazzmobile returns with its 58th annual Summerfest series, which takes over a myriad of stages throughout the city’s five boroughs with a dancing and diverse assemblage of nearly 30 jazz stars and emerging talents from July 6 to August 31.   • Deeply influenced by American folk and jazz traditions while incorporating the intimacy and precision of chamber music, The Westerlies’ brand-new program highlights the style of shape-note music—a body of work written with a notation system designed to facilitate congregational and social singing. The program includes four world premieres commissioned by Baryshnikov Arts Center, one by each of the quartet members and inspired by shape-note music, which showcase the group’s talent for improvisation while cutting new trails across the vast expanse of the American musical landscape.
