#City Artist Corps@NY Culture Jazz Guitarist/arranger/composer Steve Cimino recognized with $5,000 City Artist Corps Grant from NY Foundation For the Arts (NYFA) and the New York City Dept. of Cultural Affairs (DCCA) will present "The Influence of Musical Theater and Film on Jazz as part of the award program with support from the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment (MOME) as well as Queens Theatre. Mr. Cimino was recognized for the above project, which will bring a jazz guitar performance to the Queens Theatre in Flushing Meadow Corona Park Queens at 2:30pm on October 16, 2021. Admission is free.
The performance will illustrate the various ways that Jazz, America's only indigenous art form, incorporated the greatest songs from Musical Theater of the 1920s through the 1970s into the Jazz repertoire. Songs by Broadway's greatest composers, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Frank Loesser, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, Leonard Bernstein and others, will be performed by the Steve Cimino Quartet in creative jazz interpretations of these great works of art.

Artist Phillip K. Smith III delves into his work and inspirations, and talks about his new piece Three Half Lozenges, a site-specific commission at The Newark Museum of Art. Three Half Lozenges activates the Museum’s façade with a slowly changing program of LED lights that emerge over time, beginning at dusk. Phillip K. Smith III is an American artist based in Southern California, known for his light-based work that draws upon ideas of space, form, color, shadow, environment, and change. This program will be available on the following channels at the specified date and time: Facebook Live, Twitter Live, YouTube Live and Twitch.

The Harlem Roots and Rhythm Urban Dance Festival 2021
We are virtual again this year, being safe and considerate of our esteemed guests Join us on a SAVOY SUNDAY for a Authentic Harlem Cultural Dance Experience: The Harlem Roots and Rhythm Urban Dance Festival for 2021! This annual event brings back the Legendary Dancers of the Savoy Ballroom and the Savoy Manor. These icons made history with the famed New York City dance contest The Harvest Moon Ball by showcasing Harlem's famed dance of the Lindy Hop! This year we celebrate two Harvest Moon Ball Champs from the Savoy Ballroom era: Sonny Allen and Barbara Billups. Hear from them the importance of keeping a piece of this famed dance culture Home in Harlem! There will be a Dance Workshop, a Historical review of the Harvest Moon Ball contest and Lindy Hop’s critical input. You’ll also hear special Remembrances of the HOT 5…. See who they are! This special evening includes paying tribute to honor the career of the beloved Harvest Moon Ball King George Sullivan. The Harlem Roots and Rhythm Urban Dance Fest is made possible in part with funding from the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation and is administered by LMCC.
