A report points out flaws in the NYPD’s response to the George Floyd protests and looting that took place in the spring.
The City’s Department of Investigation report found the NYPD lacked a defined strategy for large scale protests and deployed officers lacking protest training.
“I certainly take full responsibility for the issues that are raised.”
and Mayor de Blasio says the city will implement the reports recommendations.
“We’re definitely going to look at actions of individual commanders but I think it’s fair to say that what’s being pointed out here is not so much time for retribution but time for change.”
The PBA responded saying city leaders sent officers out with no plan, strategy and support to deal with unrest that was fundamentally different than other demonstrations.
