Hear Guitarist Randy Napoleon Bring the Traditional Forward, on Morning Jazz

Cybelle Codish

Guitarist Randy Napolean makes a scene clean. How? With no nonsense, melodic lines that speak a look over the shoulder and a push ahead.

The guitarist, who toured with Benny Green and travelled the world with Freddy Cole, stopped into Morning Jazz with bassist Adam Olszewski, pianist Luther Allison and drummer Quincy Davis to play tunes from the new recording, Common Notes (Detroit Music Factory), which they’re celebrating tonight and tomorrow night at Smalls in New York.

In jazz radio, great announcers are distinguished by their ability to convey the spontaneity and passion of the music. Gary Walker is such an announcer, and his enthusiasm for this music greets WBGO listeners every morning. This winner of the 1996 Gavin Magazine Jazz Radio Personality of the Year award has hosted the morning show each weekday from 5:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. And, by his own admission, he's truly having a great time.
