While it’s Black History Month, a discussion about wrongful convictions any day of the year. Dr. Matthew Barry Johnson and Andrew Manns Jr. joined WBGO News Director to talk about their work to try and change the criminal justice system so fewer people are convicted of crime they did not commit.

Dr. Matthew Barry Johnson is a distinguished professor and author. His book Wrongful Conviction in Sexual Assault, Rape, Acquaintance Rape and Intra-familial Child Sexual Assault was published by Oxford University Press in 2021. His work reveals sexual assault as the most common offense associated with wrongful convictions.

Professor Johnson currently serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Ethnicity in Criminal Justice and the Wrongful Conviction Law Review. He also is on the Advisory Board of Floridians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty. His publications and testimony have been cited favorably in New Jersey Supreme Court decisions.

Andrew Manns Jr. a retired trial lawyer, child advocate, social entrepreneur, creative change agent, film producer, career coach, motivational teacher and mentor. He currently serves as the Marketing Consultant to World Wide Marketing, an AI-driven all in one business marketing system platform for high-end businesses and entrepreneurs.

Manns has held numerous leadership positions such as Executive Board Member and Trainer for the NJ Prison Fellowship and the NJ Justice Fellowship Task Force where he led teams of volunteers into NJ Prisons to teach inmates life skills to improve their chances of living in the outside world.
