On this edition of The Art of the Story, we preview MAM's African American Cultural Committee's "Art Meets Jazz" which this year features the Brandee Younger Trio.
The Grammy-nominated harpist, composer and bandleader spoke to WBGO's Doug Doyle about the event and her experiences as a young musician.
"Art Meets Jazz" (AMJ) is the yearly fund-raising event of the Montclair Art Museum’s African American Cultural Committee that supports MAM’S Ben F. Jones Scholarship and related arts programming. The committee’s producer and co-chair Jonathan Lee began producing AMJ eight years ago in collaboration with WBGO legend and NEA Jazz Master Dorthaan Kirk, with influences from the successful Jazz Vespers series at Bethany Baptist Church.
This year’s concert at the Montclair Art Museum welcomes the Brandee Younger Trio on Thursday, March 19 from 7-9pm (doors open for pre-event reception at 6pm).
