On this episode of The Art of the Story, producer-director Curt Stewart talks about a a rerun of the new play about the life of slave Nat Turner.
The Calliope Creative Foundation's Nat Turner's Last Struggle: Finding His Way Home, is set for November 21 at 8:00 pm, and November 22 at 3:00 pm (matinee) and an 8:00 pm performance at the Riverside Theatre (90 Claremont Avenue and 112nd Street in NYC).
The play focuses on the insurrection of the rebellious enslaved Nat Turner who rose up in defiance of the dehumanization of his enslaved brothers and sisters, seeking to liberate them from bondage.
This rebellion ultimately led to the death of 58 white Americans--including women and children. Turner was later put on trial, convicted of murder, and sentenced to hanging.
Stewart says the response to last year's performance prompted so much discussion and interest, he had to schedule another run in 20205.
