On this edition of The Art of the Story from the WBGO Archive, singer Catherine Russell performs live from J&R Music in NYC in 2008 with WBGO host Monifa Brown.

In the early 2000s, WBGO brought you Saturday Afternoon Jazz from J&R Music on Park Row in lower Manhattan -- live music, once-a-month, on 88.3FM and wbgo.org.

The artists made the music, WBGO produced the broadcast, and the shoppers bought the records.

In March 2008, vocalist Catherine Russell, daughter of two well-respected New York musicians, brought her quartet to celebrate her second album, Sentimental Streak.

Catherine Russell has released eight albums and rescued countless songs. She has made them her own, and always says Yes when WBGO calls. Her birthday is September 20th.

Happy birthday, Cat!

Special thanks to the director of the WBGO Archive Becca Pulliam and the American Archive of Public Broadcasting.
