Heat pumps can work for both heating and cooling. You can think of a heat pump as an air conditioner that can also work backwards.

New York City is taking more steps towards clean energy inside public housing buildings.

Mayor Mamdani's administration is announcing it will spend 38 million dollars for clean energy heat pumps at NYCHA’s Beach 41st Street Houses in Edgemere, Queens. Chief Climate Officer Louise Yeung says this is part of the goal of expanding the Clean Heat for All program to more than 10-thiousand NYCHA apartments by 2030.

"These low cost easy to install and maintain equipment offer sustainable alternatives to traditional based boilers."

Experts say heat pumps maintained more consistent and comfortable temperatures during the winter, compared to control apartments with a standard steam system.
