The New York Civil Liberties Union is suing the NYPD, alleging racial profiling when making vehicle stops.
Donna Lieberman with the Civil Liberties Union alleges in the suit that Black drivers are 10 times more likely to have their vehicle searched by the NYPD than white drivers in New York City. Liberman calls it stop and frisk on wheels and says vehicle searches surged under the previous Adams administration.
"The NYCLU will not let the NYPD treat our city like a constitution free zone where black and brown New Yorkers rights don't matter."
NYPD officials responded saying the departments sends more officers to neighborhoods with a high number of crimes and complaints and that results in more stops.
