The major snowstorm that has dumped more than a foot of snow in parts of New Jersey and nearly 11 inches in Central Park has created dangerous road conditions this morning….and New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill is urging people to stay off the roadways unless absolutely necessary.
Newark saw around ten inches of snow….the hardest hit area is in Sussex County…where the town of Stockholm is dealing with 17 inches.
The big storm has prompted tons of flight cancellations and sporadic power outages…Most schools in New Jersey are closed today…Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that, due to extreme weather conditions, all NYCPS buildings will be closed today with instruction continuing remotely.
NJ TRANSIT expects to begin a phased resumption of service on Monday, starting with all three light rail lines - Newark Light Rail, Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, and River LINE - will operate on a weekday schedule at the start of the service day. Customers should expect delays and possible select train cancellations as local and county crews continue clearing secondary and tertiary roadways.
Later in the morning and afternoon, NJ TRANSIT will continue monitoring roadway conditions to support a gradual ramp-up of bus and Access Link service as conditions safely permit.
