New York Governor Kathy Hochul is focusing on making New York more affordable. She gave her state of the state address on Tuesday.
Hochul announced a series of steps that would lead the state to free childcare in years to come. That includes pre-K seats for all four year-olds by 2028.
"This year while Washington takes a machete to our safety net, I am doubling down on a more affordable New York. "
She's proposing a new pilot program in some communities.
"We'll pilot communitywide childcare to provide year-round full day affordable care for newborns to three-year-olds."
Hochul announced plans to lower car insurance rates home insurance costs and healthcare expenses and eliminate taxes on tipped income. She also announced steps to make the New York City subway safer.
