Governor Kathy Hochul is proposing free childcare for two year olds in New York City'
Under Hochul's new plan free two year old childcare in the Big Apple would start with two thousand children in high needs neighborhoods in September. It would expand from there, eventually being offered city wide in the coming years. She says first two years would be paid for with excising funds. Mayor Zohran Mamdani is pleased.
"Young New Yorkers who are no longer willing to accept that the joy of beginning a family had to be paired with the heartbreak of moving away from a city that they had always loved."
Meanwhile, part of Hochul proposal includes a multi year plan to offer free Pre-K for all four-year-olds statewide.
