There's a new leader of the Catholic Church in New York.
Pope Leo has replaced Cardinal Timothy Dolan with Bishop Ronald Hicks out of Illinois. This is after the pope accepted Dolan's resignation with Dolan at the required retirement age of 75. Hicks talked to the New York media for the first time on Thursday, saying he's excited to get to know New York.
"I am also very aware that these are complex and challenging days especially as we face issues of life, faith, justice, peace and healing."
Hicks takes over at a time where the archdiocese is selling off real estate to pay for compensation to help solve sexual abuse claims. Hicks says he's committed to learning about that. Hicks call it difficult and painful but says he hopes it will help with accountability and healing.
