On Sunday, visitors strolled the pier at Coney Island beach. New York state parks reopened for the Memorial Day weekend at 50% capacity, and campgrounds were given the green light to reopen Monday.

Major upgrades are coming to the Coney Island boardwalk.

All 2.7 miles of the famous boardwalk that millions have flocked to for decades will get a total makeover. Andrew Kimball is with the City's Economic Development Corporation.

"We'll be delivering a reconstructive boardwalk from the bottom up, incorporating key resiliency measures to protect against future storms while also upgrading key access points and parks buildings."

Part of the one billion dollar city investment into Coney Island includes 15 hundred new waterfront homes, 25 percent of them will be affordable. The money is also being used to put in new streets, sewers and renovate the Abe Stark Sports Center.
