Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman will take a shot at defeating Governor Kathy Hochul next year. First he'll have to win a primary that's expected to be a battle against upstate fellow Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik. Blakeman today announced he'll be running for governor.
“New Yorkers are being hit from every angle — rising prices, rising crime, and Albany mandates that make life harder, not easier,” Blakeman said. “I’m running for Governor to put the people of our state first. It’s time for leadership that fixes problems, protects families, and makes New York affordable and safe again.”
Stafanik's campaign bashed Blakeman for entering the race, saying Blakeman has no chance of winning and that he's putting his ego above what's best for New Yorkers.
Both Stefanik and Blakeman have been big backers of President Trump. Trump declined to make an endorsement.
"They're both great people."
