Flu cases are spiking in New York State.
Health Department data shows there's been more than 17 thousand-500 positive flu cases across 62 counties so far this season. Last week the number of cases increased by more than 100 percent statewide compared to the prior week. The state is now requiring healthcare facilities and agencies to have their employees who are not vaccinated wear masks in the area of patients. State Health Commissioner Doctor James McDonald is recommending people get vaccinated.
"The flu vaccine is the best way to protect against infection and lessens symptoms if you get the flu. I encourage everyone 6 months and older to get a flu shot, and it's not too late to protect yourself and your loved ones."
