At least 15 people are under arrest after protesters clashed with ICE agents in an apparent attempt to stop an immigration raid in Lower Manhattan over the weekend.
Video footage shows protesters trying to block streets and exits in the area of Centre Street and Howard Street Saturday in an effort to prevent ICE agents from leaving a garage in a van. NYPD officers were called in an ordered the crowd to disperse. Some did not comply and started pushing barricades against police and throwing debris. Police made a number of arrests. In a statement, a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson says in part "We will never apologize for enforcing the law and removing criminal Illegal aliens ." Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani's transition team says these raids are cruel and inhumane, and fail to advance genuine public safety."
