Dozens of New York City public housing workers have been convicted of accepting bribes in a pay-for-play contracting scheme.

Prosecutors say 70 NYCHA workers who were arrested nearly two years ago accepted a combined two point one million dollars in bribes in exchange for giving repair companies contracts totaling 15 million dollars. They were just convicted of bribery, fraud and extortion. Nearly one third of all of NYCHA housing complexes citywide were impacted. The defendants are being ordered to pay the money back to NYCHA. Sentencing remains ongoing but they could get up to four years in prison.
