NYC votes for next mayor

Voters who have not already casted ballots head to the polls on this Election Day to decide the next New York City mayor. It's a three way race.

Democratic front runner Zohran Mamdani has been pushing hard his agenda to make New York City more affordable including by offering free buses and freezing rent prices. Independent Andrew Cuomo vows to hire more police officers and build more housing. Republican Curtis Sliwa has a plan to further crackdown on crime.

Early voting ended with record high turnout for a non presidential election year. About 735 thousand voters in the city casted ballots. The candidates spent the last few days of the campaign crisscrossing the city trying to win over voters. Cuomo says it is critical to vote.

"The most important election of our lifetime. This is about your future of the city."

Mamdani expressed confidence to his supporters that this will be a repeat of the primary where he beat Andrew Cuomo.

"And we did so by winning with the most votes of any candidate of New York City primary history."

Republican Curtis Sliwa is urging voters to go for him.

"I am a law and order candidate. I have been endorsed by Rudy Giuliani. I am Guiliani 2.0."
