NYC to experiment with cooler pavement

New York City will be testing out newer technology that cools down pavement in the summer.

The city council passed a bill to conduct a pilot program next year that will test out what's called cool pavement. Councilwoman Sandra Nurse, the sponsor of the bill says it's a pavement sealant that lowers the temperature.

"In San Antonio, What they found is the treatment was able to bring down the surface temperature of the road by 10 degrees and the area temperature by three degrees just on one block"

The City is expected to try out the material on five blocks in September of next year. The department of transportation will submit a report following the pilot.
