Unemployment benefits rise in NY

Unemployment benefits are rising significantly New York state.

Starting next week, the max weekly unemployment amount jumps from 504 to 869 dollars. This was part of Governor Kathy Hochul's 2026 budget and happens to come at a time where federal workers might be eligible because of the government shutdown/New York State AFL-CIO building trades unions President Mario Cilento is thrilled.

"Having this dollar amount where it is now means that we are providing peace of mind through all the chaos and insanity that is happening in Washington."

Most furloughed federal employees are eligible to receive unemployment insurance benefits in New York State.
