Construction for a new three and a half billion dollar AirTrain is now underway at Newark Airport. There was a groundbreaking ceremony Tuesday.
The two and a half mile air train will replace an outdated one and is part of the ongoing modernization of Newark airport. Port Authority's Ralph DiApuzzo says it will have the ability to carry 50 thousand daily riders and will provide a seamless connection to Terminal A and improve access to the airport.
"We are designing not just a transit system but an experience with spacious platforms, intuitive dynamic signage, natural light and local art throughout the three new stations that will be built."
The rail train is expected to start operating in 2030.
