MTA tweaks subway and bus fare hike proposal

The New York City subway returns to service after a 33-hour stoppage due to the blackout.

The MTA is revising part of its subway and bus fare hike proposal that is scheduled to take effect in January.

The MTA is now proposing unlimited subway and bus rides be 35 dollars over a seven-day period. That is a one dollar increase. The MTA had been proposing two dollar increase. The tweak comes after the public comment period drew four times the number of comments compared to the last fare hike a couple years ago. The single subway and bus ride is still scheduled to rise from 2.90 to three dollars, pending the MTA board's final approval.
