There will be no casino in Times Square after a bid was rejected by a local community board Wednesday.
Caesars partnered with Jay Z to propose a casino in Times Square that they argued would bring in billions of dollars in tax revenue and create a high number of jobs. But the theater district and many residents showed strong opposition because of concerns related to quality of life and congestion. Assemblyman Tony Simone.
"From resident to Manhattan plaza, to Midtown, even small businesses, e-mailing, calling us, over a thousand e-mails and phone calls saying they did not want this to be the economic driver in our district."
Meanwhile, a community board also voted down a potential casino for Hudson Yards. The state gaming commission will award three downstate licenses. There are 6 remaining bids.
