New York City is handing students free lap-tops this school year in what Mayor Adams' administration says is an effort to close the digital divide.
The city is partnering with T-Mobile in a deal that will give 350 thousand students Chromebooks with access to the internet and education programs. Chief Marketing officer for T-Mobile Mo Katibeh says this helps in several ways.
"What the city is doing here today, is not just a technology update. It's a leap forward in equity, education and opportunity."
The city says the laptops will be distributed throughout the school year with students most in need getting them first. They can keep the Chromebooks until they graduate.
