Details are being unveiled for the multi billion dollar overhaul of New York Penn Station.
Amtrak's Andy Byford who is in charge of the massive project vows to move quickly on what he calls a “complete top-to-bottom modernization and transformation” of Penn Station.
"It must be about making the station operationally sound, safe, clean and easy to navigate. And I want in the future this station to ooze excellence."
U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says the transformation is expected to start near the end of 2027 and finish four to five years later. On Wednesday he announced a 43 million dollar grant for preliminary engineering work. Penn station needs to be redesigned to hold more trains and ease overcrowding.
