Attendance at Newark public schools continues to improve as students get ready for another school year.

Newark officials released data showing the average attendance rate for students in pre-K through 12th grade was 95.1 percent last school year. That's up from 94.8 percent the prior school year. For three years in a row overall attendance has improved according to the Office of Policy, Planning, Evaluation & Testing which presented the data at a recent board of education meeting.

“These results reflect the hard work of our families, staff, and community partners to keep students engaged, supported, and present,” said Superintendent León.

Stats shows Newark's overall chronic absenteeism rate fell again from 12.1 percent to 10.4 percent. Newark has more than 41-thousand students.
