Self driving cars are going to be tested out in New York City.

The city DOT just approved a permit for Waymo to start testing autonomous vehicles in parts of Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn. Under the permit, Waymo is required to have a trained AV specialist behind the wheel at all times. The public is not allowed to use the vehicles. Several organizations including the Independent Drivers Guild which represents Uber and Lyft drivers have criticized the Adams administration for approving the testing. They site concerns over safety and the elimination of jobs.
