Governor Phil Murphy wants folks out of the water at New Jersey beaches because of Hurricane Erin.
Forecasters are expecting Hurricane Erin to remain far away from the Jersey Shore, but the storm is still expected to bring very dangerous rip currents. Governor Phil Murphy is asking beachgoers to stay out of the water.
"Please take this seriously, particularly push back on complacency, on the human nature that gosh it's beautiful outside, let's sneak a quick dip in the water. This is not the week to do that."
a large number of Jersey shore communities have banned swimming for now. Waves over 10 feet are expected in the days to comes. State officials say there is the potential for moderate coastal flooding and beach erosion from Erin. Meanwhile, New York City has closed its beaches to swimming through at least Thursday.
