The man convicted of murdering a New Jersey elected official execution style is headed to prison for a long time.

Rashid Bynum was sentenced to life in prison Monday for shooting Sayreville, Councilwoman Eunice Dwumfour 15 times in 2023. The 30-year-old was found dead in her SUV outside her apartment. Bynum didn't speak at the sentencing an appeared to offer no remorse. He'll have to serve three and a half decades before being eligible for parole. It was an emotional sentencing with family members of Dwumfour giving impact statements. Dwumfour and Bynum knew each other from the Sayreville church where she served as a pastor but the motive is still unclear.
