MTA looking to raise fares for subway and bus riders

MTA

A fare hike is likely coming in January for New York City subway and bus riders.

A single subway ride could cost you four bucks.
The MTA board unveiled a plan Wednesday to raise subway and bus fares starting January 4th. MTA board member Neal Zuckerman says the agency needs it to keep up.

"So we could actually keep pace with wage increases we have and other costs but this is a very gradual raise and think very respectful of the cost of inflation and affordability issues."

Drivers using MTA run bridges and tunnels would see about a seven and a half percent increase starting January 4th. Those Metro North and LIRR Riders would be hit with a nearly four and a half percent increase in January. The MTA still has to vote on the plan. There will be public hearings before that.
