Andrew Cuomo will resign as the governor of New York at 11:59 p.m. ET on Monday, August 23.

Final results are in and now show how much state Assembly member Zohran Mamdani beat former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary for New York City Mayor.

The final round of ranked choice shows Mamdani getting 56 percent of the vote compared to Cuomo's 44 percent. Slightly over one million voters cast ballots and roughly 4 in 10 voters were under the age of 40. Cuomo's campaign released a statement.

"The primary saw a massive spike in voters under 30, and those who had never voted before -- completely changing the overall electorate."

Cuomo left the door open for possibly running in the general election this fall as an independent.
